Vacancy Business Controller

We are looking for a Business Controller (fulltime) to join our Global Team in The Netherlands. Starting date: January 1st, 2020.

Safi Sana is an innovative enterprise that provides unique solutions for sanitation and waste recycling in low income countries. By using waste as a resource to produce energy, organic fertilizer and irrigation water, our circular model improves hygienic and health conditions in local communities, and generates impact on social, economic and environmental level for hundreds of thousands of people. Safi Sana’s recycling plant in Ashaiman, Ghana, is the first proven recycling concept plant that shows positive returns on investment.

As a company we are now poised for significant growth across the African continent and beyond over the next 3 years. Building on the success of the Ashaiman Plant in Ghana, we are seeking a Business Controller to join our dynamic senior team and help to drive our expansion.

Who are we looking for?

You will be an exceptional individual with demonstrable financial skills and experience in developing infrastructure projects. You will know your way around big projects in waste, water, and energy with international investors.  You will enjoy working with multiple stakeholders in challenging environments, carry a sharp pencil, and have a keen eye for financial details. Safi Sana maintains a fast paced, results driven environment. Therefore, we seek a candidate with a pro-active approach, externally focused and future oriented with clear results orientation, as well as a  hands-on approach, can do mentality, flexible in taking on work in a start-up environment. You will be based at the Safi Sana office in Weesp/Amsterdam with international travel.

Key responsibilities

Capital planning and investor reporting

  • Translate mid and long-term strategy into a capital plan;
  • Prepare investor pitches in partnership with the MD;
  • Assist the MD with key financial terms for capital negotiations;
  • Prepare financial reports for existing investors and donors.

General accounting, operations and compliance

  • Preparing and control of Group budget and preparing Group financial accounts, ensuring tight financial controls and accurate accounting and reporting processes;
  • Supervising finance and administration managers in The Netherlands, Ghana and future operations;
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial management reports and narratives on Group and Project performance for MD, Safi Sana Group Board, Donors and Investors;
  • Safeguard the organisation’s compliance with applicable law and accounting rules, as well as compliance with financing contracts and group policies;
  • Monitor and analyse financial and operational KPI’s of Plants;
  • Leading supply chain management processes in coordination with MD and Operations Manager.

Business development and project finance

  • Preparing financial projections and project proposals for new projects;
  • Design of project financing structures including project SPVs;
  • Financial control of project budget and contract management in the development of new plants.

Skills & experience requirements :

  • Strong business accounting and administration background;
  • Expertise in building and managing complex financial analyses and reports;
  • Previous work in Low Income Countries;
  • Experience in tendering and contract management for infrastructure or other major projects;
  • A minimum of 8 years’ work experience;
  • Relevant degree at university level (MBA, Business Economics).

Candidates with the following experience will be advantaged: corporate finance, investment banking, private equity or impact investing; managing a range of investor contracts.
