Safi Sana trains over a thousand people

MARKET QUEENS TRAINING

Education and information are crucial in improving sanitation, hygiene and waste management in a neighborhood like Ashaiman. Firstly, because it is necessary for behavioral change, and secondly, because it creates a sense of public ownership. For this reason, Safi Sana has developed an extensive education program with the aim of reaching 80,000 people.

Since last May, leaders of various official bodies have attended our sessions: religious leaders from both Christian and Islamic communities, market queens, and representatives of local governments and schools. We have also trained our waste pickers, slaughterhouse attendants and Toilet Service Network operators.

In total, so far more than a thousand people have attended our trainings and have taken posters, stickers and flyers home to spread the word. Some of the trainings included a tour at our factory. For example, we showed the market queens what we do with their organic waste. They were very impressed and enthusiastic when they saw how their waste returns to their community in the form of renewable energy, organic fertiliser and fresh vegetables which they can sell.
