Program Director (Oct 2018)

The Safi Sana Group is currently finalising its new strategy, building on the success from the Ashaiman Plant in Ghana and preparing for significant growth over the next 3 years. To achieve this growth, we are restructuring the Group’s resources to ensure we are fit for purpose.

To support this transition, we are recruiting for a Program Director who will help shape the structure, ensure the Ghana operations are maximising their potential, including fundraising and work closely with the Managing Director in Holding to prepare for new projects internationally

The Program Director will be responsible for:

  1. The development of the Program Development strategy for the international roll out with a special focus on the capacity building and impact components of the programs. The Program Development strategy is part of the overall Safi Sana Group strategic plan which falls within the responsibility of the MD;
  2. Execution of the Program Development strategy which includes the preparation of full project proposals [including project budget, project staffing formation, partnerships] for both tenders and self-initiated programs, that must lead to new operational contracts. The PD will coordinate the commercial and technical contributions from the Safi Sana team / experts;
  3. Act as expert in Program Development and Implementation on themes related to activities in WASH, Agriculture, Energy, Impact monitoring, M&E, Capacity building, Community Development, (local) Government Relations. This includes support in these areas for the ongoing operations in Ashaiman, Ghana;
  4. Fundraising (subsidies / applications) for Safi Sana group related ‘performance improvement’ projects (e.g. in relation to impact monitoring, capacity development, technology R&D);
  5. Management of project improvement projects and donor/investor relationships;
  6. Build strategic partnerships to develop projects;
  7. Knowledge management: translate lessons learned into manuals, guides, policies that allow further scaling of the Safi Sana model;
  8. Communications / PR for Safi Sana Group including website, social media, networking, representation. The Program Director will be a bold advocate for the Safi Sana approach.
  9. Reporting to the MD.

During the first six months of the role, the following milestones will be expected:

  • Develop program management processes to ensure efficient running (HR practices, Performance Improvements Projects, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Donor Stewardship);
  • Establish an agreed strategy for SSH on fundraising, communications and advocacy activities;
  • Work closely with the MD as a Senior Leadership Team to:
    • Support the design of a capacity building DBOT program, establishing partnerships, Improving Impact monitoring);
    • Support the Sales operation in program design and application process;
    • Support the development of a marketing plan at Plant level with a special focus on non-technical issues;
    • Support KPI monitoring of the Ashaiman plant and the community program;
  • Other tasks as deemed necessary to support strategic leadership of the Safi Sana Group.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate the following experience and expertise:

  • Strong program management experience
  • Experience in components of the circular economy – WASH, waste management, agriculture, renewable energy
  • Relevant degree at university level
  • Relevant experience in program and fundraising management
  • Proven track record in securing project funding
  • Networking skills and contacts
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience in communications /PR skills
  • Relevant experience in the sanitation, energy and/or agriculture sector
  • Excellent team player
  • Results oriented focus
  • Team management experience
  • Experience of working in Low Income Countries will be an advantage

The role will be based at the Safi Sana office in Weesp/Amsterdam with international travel.
